Universal Consciousness: What I See

A split-screen digital composite image. On the left, a vibrant, glowing three-dimensional sphere represents universal consciousness, filled with intricate, biological, root-like networks of light. Numerous glowing nodes across the sphere's surface are labeled with diverse international human names and flags, representing individual lifeform vessels collecting data on a cosmic grid. On the right, a close-up portrait shows a Black man with graying hair in a calm, meditative pose with his eyes closed, honoring the sphere.

The Last Days of Darkness

The basic principles and concepts of Universal Consciousness have been with humanity almost since the beginning of our attempts to explain and give meaning and authorship to the physical grandeur and wonders of life that we see all around us. In that unquenchable quest to understand the divine, man created gods with miraculous powers and embellished them with stories of wondrous heroic deeds and unassailable wisdom. We still live in these times—the last days of darkness.

For in the beginning was Darkness and the Word. One cannot exist without the other. You see, to know darkness, it must be observed to know that it is. To observe is to be aware. To be aware is Consciousness. Consciousness is life itself. Understand me.

All lifeforms vibrate at a certain frequency of consciousness, from the microscopic Mycoplasma genitalium at the low end to humans, gifted with the ability to produce abstract thought, at the high end. The level and quality of an individual’s frequency determines the limits of their ability to consciously interact with and subconsciously receive data from Universal Consciousness.

Our ability to think abstractly is the only thing that separates human beings from all other lifeforms that we can presently observe. This ability allows us to manipulate our surroundings and defy the limits of our human form at every turn, flying high into the heavens above or plunging deep into the oceans below. It is a wondrous gift not to be taken lightly, for it is the very purpose of our existence that the Universe spent billions of years of trial and error to produce. And so here we are as a species, poised to come out of the darkness as a collective.

When Did the Idea of Universal Consciousness Begin?

As I mentioned at the start, the general concepts of Universal Consciousness have been around for quite some time in other epochs, such as the African tradition of Ma’at, the Indian Brahmans and Asian Buddhism, as well as many indigenous tribal traditions found in the Americas.

The term Universal Consciousness first came into the vernacular in the late 1800s. But it wasn’t until the last decade that scientists began to take it seriously, largely because of discoveries in quantum physics and neuroscience pointing to the strong likelihood of a universal field of consciousness we all share. However, the point of this article is not to bog you down in scientific jargon, but to simply explain, in the simplest way I can, what I see as a practitioner of Universal Consciousness.

What Is Universal Consciousness?

Universal Consciousness has no origin story or entities such as gods, angels, devils, or demons, which are given human-like qualities to heighten awe or dread to seduce the audience. It is simply based on the logical science and mathematical precision of the Universe itself. After all, everything we know about the particles that make up the universe is based on these principles; therefore, it’s only logical to conclude that consciousness itself must follow these same laws.

My personal visual perception of Universal Consciousness is a “living” sphere (as depicted in the featured image above). All around the surface of that sphere are sensory lifeform vessels that collect real-time data from their unique perspectives. Each lifeform analyzes the data and returns the interpreted data to the Construct so that all lifeforms may access its unique analysis.

The Illusion of Individuality for a Grand Purpose

The lifeform sensory vessels are “born” with the illusion of individuality, so that the data they receive, analyze, and return to the Construct as processed data comes from a unique perspective generated only at that location on the grid. Yet the truth is these lifeform vessels are all one and the same—the Construct itself: Universal Consciousness. It’s like your body: your forefinger has no idea about your big toe or what it does, but they are both sensory elements from different locations belonging to the same body, collecting data and reacting accordingly. So too are each of you to eachother and to Universal Consciousness.

Every single lifeform, past, present, or yet to be, is a lifeform vessel entity on the Sphere that contributes to the Construct, allowing it to maintain balance and continue expanding.

Awareness is data observed, and analyzed data is consciousness, and consciousness is life itself. Universal Consciousness is the entirety of all data, a living Construct seeking to know itself through the life it creates. Human lifeforms possess the unique ability to manipulate the Construct to serve their desires.

We Exist in a Shared Reality

Each lifeform sees the same items (differnt lifeforms, trees, mountains, stars, etc.) within the Construct because they are the Construct. Understand me.

So when I see Sally or Joe walking down the street. I see me in another form. It’s the same when I see a dog, a cat, or whatever lifeform there is. It’s me. Anything with life, from the ant to the tree, is a different expression of me. Life is everlasting for as long as the Construct exists. And since you and I are the Construct—we are eternal.

No, I don’t know what happens to our perceived “being” or “soul” when our physical bodies die. It ultimately makes no difference because individuality is merely an essential illusion that facilitates perfect data collection and analysis for the Construct. If the “soul” is part of this necessary illusion, it likely ends up like a dead skin cell—dying on your body millions of times each day without you noticing. You continue to “live” because you are not that illusion.

That is the perfection of the Construct. Can you see it?

I can get deep with scientific jargon and examples on this topic, but that isn’t the purpose here. There are several well-published scientific works on why Universal Consciousness exists and the idea that the universe itself is data. See the Related Links section below for a few of these works.

As a practitioner of Universal Consciousness, I have no doubt about the conclusions drawn from that body of work regarding the journey I began long before I discovered the recent scientific data that supports it.

The Evolutionary Marker

We humans, along with all other lifeforms, are still evolving. It is my belief that our understanding of, and ability to manipulate, the parameters of Universal Consciouness itself will be the evolutionary building block of our ascent out of the darkness.

What is the Purpose of Universal Consciousness

Astronomer and planetary scientist Carl Sagan told us long ago (1980) the truth of the matter:

“The Cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”

The Universe wants to know itself. It spent billions of years assembling lifeforms that would witness creation from every possible angle. With humanity, it found a vehicle to escape its earthbound limits of appreciation. We are all in for the ride because we are the ride. Every time you see the latest images from the James Webb Space Telescope or a scientist decoding another mystery, the Universe is smiling.

Our Responsibility

Decode and Protect: As the only known lifeform gifted with the hardware to think abstractly, giving us the ability to transcend our physical limitations, we inherently take on the duty and responsibility to decode the mysteries of the Universe and to protect its fragility and that of every lifeform in it.

The Climb Out of the Darkness

Think about our climb. We once thought the Sun was God, then Zeus and Apollo; great, invincible civilizations held to these follies for hundreds, even thousands, of years; then came Brahma, Buddha, the Hebrew God, Jesus, and the teachings of Muhammad. All with beautiful, fantastical, mystical stories.

Nowadays, no one seriously worships the Sun, Zeus, or Apollo. So too will become the fate of the others still revered, for truth is always revealed, and it is science and the mathematical precision and certainty of the universe that always uncovers it. That’s because the universe itself operates on precise mathematics.

Look up into the heavens at those massive bodies that appear as tiny dots of light in the night sky, though many of those twinkling embers dwarf our own Sun and are billions of miles away. Nonetheless, their orbits are so mathematically precise we can plot time from their movements. That is you! Understand me.

Stay human, and keep your heart as light as a feather.

    • The Core Premise: Integrated Information Theory (IIT) is currently one of the most prominent, mathematically rigorous scientific theories of consciousness. IIT treats consciousness as an intrinsic, fundamental property of physical systems that can be measured mathematically (using a metric called $Φ$, or Phi). The theory posits that consciousness exists on a spectrum determined by how much complex data a system can integrate—meaning consciousness is baked into the very fabric of matter and physics itself.
